This is a photo of our dining space in 2013 when we purchased our house.
Slowly we started putting the space together.
We moved in our boxes of stuff and pieces of teak.
And more boxes of stuff,
and more pieces of teak.
If you noticed, it didn't take long to start painting. We're pretty sure the space had been recently painted for the sale, however we love white walls. I started by painting the walls a bright white shade. The trimwork was painted a semi-gloss finish white and the ceiling was painted 'Innocence' blue. I love how it accentuates the original cove ceiling. It brightened the space immediately.
Although the ceiling fixture was nice, I had been carrying around this fabulous mid-century fixture that we wanted to install. We added a classic ceiling medallion to bring together two classic styles. The table was a freebie that I had sprayed in a lacquer finish in 'Sunshine' yellow. It lights up the room. The Panton style chairs are reproductions that I've had for several years and the Pagholz chairs were found by Jeff.
The floor is also original and in surprisingly good condition. I simply added our fun Flor tiles for colour. They are very easy to clean so they make a great addition for a dining space. With a mainly vintage vibe with a touch of french, we are very happy with the progress. We will continue to work with our art. The four pieces in the following photos are all made by family members.
This piece I made for an art project with found letters.
The long '8' artwork is a piece by my son that he created in high school. I have always loved it.
The blue silhouette horse is a creation of my daughter that I treasure as well. Please check out more of her artwork on my site too.
We will continue to accessorize.
We will continue to have fun.
This chrome shelf unit was found by Jeff and quickly scooped up by us when he told me about it. It was just down the street waiting for a new home. It is loaded with barware and fun accessories.
We love the way it's coming together. It's colourful, fun and original. We definitely love being creative with our interiors along with our budget. This room ended up costing approximately $1250. How fabulous is that?! That includes furniture, paint, lighting, accessories, etc. The only thing it doesn't include is the liquor!
The teak sideboard is a beautiful piece we have had for several years now. It is a great storage piece that holds our glassware, placemats, serving dishes, etc. The large mirror on it was one once attached to one of those tacky triple dressers. A coat of paint later, it is totally transformed. All of the art in the room is personal. The Sam Roberts photo and set list are from a concert of his that I will never forget. Jeff and I were in the front row, where Jeff snapped the photo. After the show, I was the lucky recipient of Sam's set list! The shadowbox art is from a best friend of mine, Laurie Anne Langford. She is truly a magnificent artist that you should check out at shadowboxlaurie.blogspot.com .
If you want a unique look on a strict budget, let me know! Cheers!
