As I wrote the other day, I have a stack of books that I want to read before they have to be returned to the Toronto Public Library. I started off with 'Be Your Own Decorator' and found it very helpful and encouraging. It was great to hear so many great designers giving the message that it's not what you pay for a piece, it's how much you love it. There were so many as well that were proud of their flea market and vintage acquisitions. I was nearing the end of the book, which can make me a bit sad because I don't want some books to end, and I came upon my favourite photo in the book. It is a photo of a space by Victoria Smith who describes her style aptly by saying it is "mid-century meets bohemian modern". She adds, "I love collecting unique vintage pieces from lots of different genres and eras and mixing them all up to create an eclectic space that reflects my personal style" (from Be Your Own Decorator). She is a woman after my own decorating heart.
