No longer living in the quiet countryside, we are now quite happy living in the beautiful city of Toronto.
We still offer a fabulous collection of pieces ranging from mid-century modern design to French antiques with quite a lot in between. Interior styling and decorating is also offered.
Please check back frequently as I'll be updating with before and after photos as well as new acquisitions.

Another Article for Real Style Network

I am so happy to be a part of the Real Style Network team. I have just finished another article for their Home section. This piece speaks on styling shelves.

Here's a sneak peek.

Styling Shelves
Most of us have books, mementos, art and general treasures in our homes that we want to hold onto. If you have a smaller space, or even if you don’t, think about taking advantage of the vertical spaces in your home to store and display these pieces. Shelves can add architectural interest along with aiding in your home’s organization. It’s a good thing to consider both form and function. Shelves definitely fit the bill.
You can place shelves in any room in your home. There are freestanding shelving units, wall hung shelf and storage units, built in shelves and floating shelves. No matter what style of shelves you decide to go with, a great aesthetic can be achieved in styling shelves with a few guidelines along with your own personal flair.

In book placement, instead of having all books in the standard vertical position, place some books in a horizontal pile for a more modern look. You can choose to group books according to their colour. It’s nice to place mementos among the books to add a sculptural element.  These pieces can be stacked on top of a pile of books as well. Having different heights in your groupings will add more interest to shelves.

To incorporate art in your shelves, depending on the size of artwork, it can be propped on the shelves. For bigger art pieces hang them on the shelves. This is traditionally an English library type of look yet it can still work in a contemporary home.

Use items that are meaningful to you and that reflect your personality. For collections you can group like objects giving a more striking effect. To add function to shelves, add boxes or baskets to house items that you don’t necessarily want on display yet you need to keep.
The shelves themselves can be updated by painting or papering the back of the shelves. This will add more visual interest and beautiful colour. If you’re like me, you’ll arrange and rearrange as many times as it takes until it looks just right. Keep form and function in mind and add in some fun and personality and it will happen.
